Pirates, a vanishing baroness, and the world’s oldest post office. Floreana Island is unlike any other place in the Galápagos — steeped in history, rich in wildlife, and home to some of the best snorkeling in the archipelago. Book your day tour directly with our local Puerto Ayora team.
Floreana Island is the fourth largest inhabited island in the Galápagos, measuring 173 km² with its highest point at Cerro Pajas (640m). It was the first island settled by humans in the archipelago and carries centuries of fascinating history — from pirate hideouts and the world’s oldest post office to one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the 20th century.
Beyond its history, Floreana is a paradise for wildlife lovers. The island hosts the largest flamingo lagoon in the Galápagos, giant tortoises roaming freely in the highlands, and some of the best snorkeling spots in the archipelago — including the famous Devil’s Crown, a submerged volcanic crater teeming with marine life.
Both tours depart from Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz. Prices are per person and include ferry, naturalist guide, snorkel equipment and lunch.
Visit the enchanting Floreana Island, explore its highlands with giant tortoises in the wild, discover the famous Post Office Bay, and snorkel at Devil’s Crown — one of the best snorkeling sites in the archipelago.
Explore the stunning Enderby islet and Punta Cormorant, home to a flamingo lagoon and one of the few green sand beaches in the world. Snorkel at Devil’s Crown, a submerged volcanic crater teeming with tropical fish, sea turtles, and rays.
The only way to reach Floreana Island from Santa Cruz is by inter-island ferry or speedboat. The ferry departs from the Gus Angermeyer Pier in Puerto Ayora at approximately 7:00 AM and takes around 2 hours to reach Puerto Velasco Ibarra, Floreana’s main port. The return ferry departs Floreana at approximately 3:00-4:00 PM.
When you book with Zambrano Tours, we coordinate all ferry logistics — tickets, boarding, and transfers. Our team meets you at the pier and accompanies you throughout the day. No stress, no confusion — just adventure.
Zambrano Tours tip: Floreana is the most historically rich island in the Galápagos. Bring a jacket for the ferry crossing, cash for the entrance fee, and your curiosity — the stories of pirates, baronesses, and mysterious disappearances make this island unlike any other in the archipelago.
Floreana Island is beautiful year-round. From January to May (warm season), calmer seas make for a smoother crossing and warmer water for snorkeling. From June to December (cool season), the Humboldt Current brings nutrient-rich waters with exceptional marine biodiversity — ideal for seeing sharks, rays, and abundant fish at Devil’s Crown.
Flamingos are present year-round at Punta Cormorant lagoon, and giant tortoises roam the highlands regardless of season. Our local team always advises the best options based on current conditions.
